It gives us great pleasure to be welcoming you into the world of diy. This project has been founded between Cairo and London as an international platform for experimental electronic music, with a pronounced aim to support independent music culture across the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region and worldwide.

There are many aims and ambitions for diy – to find out about our latest developments you can sign up to our mailing list here. To kick things off in style, we’re proud to launch with the first release on our label, a 7” single from Egyptian producer, Jordan based Dijit featuring a remix from Bristol, UK-based producer Kinlaw. To coincide with the release, this blog is launching as a space in which to explore the intersection between music, text and graphic design. We’ll be serving up a variety of global content, including long-read interviews exploring record shop culture, dynamic features, reviews and in-depth introductions to regional artists and those from further afield. Ultimately, we wish to establish diy as a key creative hub in the MENA region, bridging the gap between local creative communities and kindred spirits from further afield.

Alongside the evolution of our label, plans are underway to establish a record shop in Cairo. As well as an impeccably curated selection of new releases in-store and online, we will also carry an affordable spread of second-hand stock to inspire the curious in the time-honoured ritual of bargain bin record digging. We see the role of a record shop not just as a business outlet, but as a vital community hub to inspire those yet to discover their artistic voice, help facilitate connections and support the creative work of those around us.

There’s more incredible music in the pipeline, ready to be released, and we’re thoroughly combing through the undergrowth to bring you insightful stories from less explored corners of the worldwide musical conversation, so stay locked.
